Jon and Evelyn Bean are Catholic Resource Specialists for Crown Financial Ministries. They live in Winter Springs, Florida where they are active members of St. Stephen Catholic Community.

They were first exposed to Crown Ministries in 1987. At that time, through a series of bad decisions, they had $35K in credit card debt, had used all long term savings for short term living expenses and their marriage was under significant stress.

In the Crown Small Group Bible Study they learned what the Bible teaches about finances and were amazed to learn that there are 2,350 verses in the bible on money, possessions and stewardship. As a result of the Crown class, they changed the way they handled finances and were able to dig out of debt by:

• Tracking every penny they spent for 3 years
• Spending only on needs, not wants
• Freezing their credit cards (really – in a bowl of water)

By faithfully following what they learned in the Bible through the Crown class, they have been able to live a lifestyle following biblical principles for the past 20 years. In the process they taught over 45 Crown Financial Ministries’ classes in the Central Florida area. As a result of staying focused on His principles, they have been able to retire early and to begin work as full time volunteers for Crown, teaching people about biblical financial principles.

Stewardship is handling all of the gifts God has given us in a manner pleasing to Him – it’s not just how much money we put in the collection plate each week. Each of us spends so much time each day making money, handling money and spending money, that doing it according to biblical principles is an area where we as Catholics can have a positive influence on our families, friends, and society as a whole.

Don Tauscher is a Catholic Resource Specialist for Crown Financial Ministries. Don and his wife Jeanne have been married 51 years and lives in Winter Park, Florida where they are active members of Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church community.
Don was involved in the financial services business more than 40 years. His experience includes serving as a bank president and commercial real estate salesman and land syndicator. He also was involved in commercial development, real estate exchanging, mortgage banking, mutual funds marketing, and financial planning, and he has served as a national seminar instructor in the area of creative financing.

With all this experience/education and Blessings over the years, Don went broke. At first he blamed the “real estate market”, the changes in IRS depreciation regulations, high interest rates, etc.

It was only after a life changing experience that he realized that he did not have a financial problem---he had a spiritual problem! In 1987 Don attended the Crown Financial Ministries 10 week Financial Bible Study. After learning what God had to say through his Word, he accepted the fact that his challenge was GREED, IDOLOTRY, AND LACK OF CHRISTIAN COUNSEL. The next “deal” always had to be bigger----he worshipped money---and because he was “the smartest guy in town”, he did not seek proper, timely, and Godly counsel.

After gradually applying the principles from the Crown study, things began to change and develop, whereby debts could be paid, and a new approach to family finance was taking shape. Most importantly, God had plans for Don through this financial pilgrimage---a calling to take Crown to the Catholic Church. As the first Catholic to experience the Crown weekly Bible Study, Don saw the need in his own Parish, St. Margaret Mary. That was his total vision in the fall of 1987—his Parish---one Parish. Little did he realize how God would use him over the years, and today in 2007, Crown is active around the world in many Catholic communities, with thousands having experienced God’s word for managing all their resources. Praise the Lord!!
